Most of us don’t wake up one morning and decide to stay stuck.
We simply keep following a script we learned a long time ago.
The script you learned a long time ago
Be sensible.
Don’t make a fuss.
Keep going.
Put other people first.
Don’t want too much.
Don’t get too big for your boots.
Wait until you’re ready.
At some point, that script may have helped you. It may have kept you safe, accepted, approved of, or needed.
When the old script no longer fits
But what happens when the script no longer fits?
What happens when the version of you who learned those lines is not the same woman who is trying to live your life now?
This is where so many capable women find themselves.
On the outside, they are functioning. They are working, supporting, caring, managing, remembering, doing. They may even look confident.
But inside, something feels off.
They feel restless, flat, resentful, invisible, or quietly disappointed. They know there is more in them, but they don’t know how to reach it.
So they try to fix the practical things.
They look for a new plan.
A new routine.
A new strategy.
A new course.
A new diary.
A new version of “I’ll start again on Monday.”
And sometimes those things help.
But often, the real issue is not the plan.
It is the self-image sitting underneath the plan.
The self-image underneath the plan
Because if you still see yourself as the woman who must not take up too much space, you will keep shrinking yourself, even when you say you want to be visible.
If you still see yourself as the woman who has to prove she is good enough, you will keep over-giving, overworking and over-explaining.
If you still see yourself as the woman who has to wait for permission, you will keep delaying the very things your heart is asking you to begin.
That is why self-image work matters.
Not because it is fluffy.
Not because it is about pretending to be someone you’re not.
And not because changing your life is as simple as thinking nice thoughts.
It matters because your self-image quietly shapes what you believe is available to you.
It shapes what you allow yourself to want.
What you allow yourself to choose.
What you allow yourself to receive.
What you allow yourself to become.
And sometimes the most powerful question is not, “What should I do next?”
It is, “Who am I still trying to be?”
Who are you still trying to be?
The good girl?
The strong one?
The sensible one?
The one who never needs anything?
The one who keeps the peace?
The one who waits her turn?
There may come a point in your life when that old script starts to feel too small.
Not because it was wrong.
Not because you have failed.
But because you have grown.
And perhaps the work now is not to tear your life apart.
Perhaps it is to begin listening to the part of you that already knows you were made for more honesty, more freedom, more joy, more courage, more life.
You are allowed to stop living from an old script.
You are allowed to ask what still fits and what no longer does.
You are allowed to become the leading lady of your own life, not by becoming someone else, but by finally coming home to yourself.
If this speaks to you, I have space for one VIP Day this month. Spend a day with me in Chichester, and return home with a clearer, stronger sense of who you are becoming. If that sounds like the reset you need, drop me a line here and let’s explore whether this work is right for you.
